Fiber doesn’t fool around

Do you consume enough fiber? Probably not. 95% of Americans fall well below the recommended daily intake, which is rather modest (22-34 grams/day).

Fiber plays many important roles for our benefit including prevention of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. It lowers cholesterol, is associated with lower all-cause mortality, and is critical for gastrointestinal health & optimal digestion.

Do you know where to get dietary fiber? ONLY from plants! I was surprised to learn many people think there is fiber in meat – this is very incorrect. Whole grains, beans, and other legumes provide the best source; however, of course fruits – especially berries – and vegetables have plenty as well. (Note: a fiber supplement isn’t going to cut it.)
